Sing along! Today, we meld together two of my hobbies. Obviously, the first is collecting classic arcade games. The second is collecting, classic, at least I think they are, albums on vinyl. It’s actually a hobby that my daughter and I enjoy together. We hit the local records shops and while she looks for the Beatles, Barbara Streisand and movie soundtracks, I look for Van Halen, Motley Crue, Ozzy and occasionally some Prince or Run-DMC. Perhaps the favorite album in my collection is this gem, recorded in 1982:
The full blown album! It features the following tracks on side 1:
Ode To A Centipede
Do The Donkey Kong
Side 2 features these songs:
Most people would be content with just owning one copy of the album. Not me, I have a second copy, still factory sealed! It’s not mint, but hey, it’s been tucked away for basically 33 years.
The inner sleeve features patterns for Pac-Man. I’ve never tried them so I don’t know if they work or not but they are interesting to look at:
I’m not going to review the music in detail. The title track has held up well over the years. If you like pop music from the early 80’s, the rest of the album will be enjoyable with the exception of Froggy’s Lament. What an awful song! Be careful of later versions, specifically the 1999 and 2002 releases on CD. These versions does not contain the original recordings of the songs as Buckner and Garcia could not obtain the original master recordings. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m headed to the arcade!
